An Artist Skilled at Dyeing and Coloring Leather. Exquisite Use of Color.
An encounter while in university with Yasuhiro Mihara led to Mayumi Hasegawa’s learning about leather. Mayumi provided belts of her own making to the MIHARAYASUHIRO collection, produced leather designs used on the walls at BEAMS headquarters in Harajuku, and before she knew it, had leapt out of the world of apparel and began a 10-year journey producing works of leather, primarily using python. Mayumi Hasegawa is active as designer and artist, flexibly crossing between the two realms. Currently she is involved in developing the ACAMAL brand incorporating the techniques of the traditional arts of Japan, traveling to visit skilled craftspeople all over Japan and continuing to endeavour in the making of things.
